Madewell Try-On – July 2019

I found some awesome stuff this week at Madewell! Their denim really is worth the hype if you’re looking for a quality investment piece!

Full disclosure: I’m a budget friendly shopper, through and through. But I do like to make the occasional investment on a high quality article of clothing! If you’re here and reading, I’m sure you know that Madewell doesn’t exactly fit into the affordable category, but I was able to find a few items on major sale! I’m sharing those with you, along with some much more expensive items that caught my eye and I did love!

Believe it or not, this was the first time I’ve ever been to a Madewell. My local mall doesn’t have many higher end retailers like Nordstrom, Madewell, J.Crew, etc. I mean, we don’t even have a LOFT. The highest end store we have is a Macy’s. We used to have Dillard’s but they just closed that. (Our mall really isn’t the greatest.) So, I’ve got to travel a little bit to get to some of the better, and more expensive, stores. (So, maybe it’s a blessing in disguise… for my wallet that is.)

I spent the day shopping with friends and the boys. Seriously, you guys, thank the good lord for good friends who will sit with your kids while you try things on and shop! I found a lot of great items at Madewell, and I was honestly so in love with the denim I tried on. The shorts came home with me because they were on sale. The jeans, they stayed in the store, because if I told my husband I spent $135 on a pair of jeans, I’d need a new home. (Don’t read too much into that. I’m not saying that my husband is in charge of me. It’s a respect thing. I would never spend that kind of money on clothing, when there is always something that I could buy for the family or the home.) They really were great jeans, and if they’re in your budget, I highly recommend them. But I totally understand not having that kind of cash to spend on a pair of pants. If you’re looking to make an investment in a high quality pair of jeans, then these could be a great pair for you!

Up first, we have the infamous Whisper Cotton V-Neck Tank. I’ll be honest with you. It’s a cute tank. But I wouldn’t pay the full price for it. Its a very lightweight material which is perfect for summer. This particular color was on sale for $13, which I’m totally fine with paying for a tank top! They definitely run TTS, I got the small! Bonus: Sale items are an additional 30% off!

These shorts also came home with me. They are a great length, color, and fit. I loved everything about them! I was in such a rush, I didn’t even take a good picture of the tulip hem on the side. So. Cute. This pair was also on clearance and is unfortunately sold out on Madewell’s website, but I did find them on Nordstrom’s website! They run TTS, I’m wearing a 27.

Whisper Cotton V-Neck Pocket Tank in Fieldgate Stripe | The Perfect Tulip Hem Denim Shorts

This floral tee was so soft and comfortable. Definitely a thicker, high quality material, but still comfortable! I didn’t bring this home with me simply because I need another floral tee like I need a hole in my head, and it was still full price. I’d say the quality was there, but it would have had a higher chance of coming home with me if it’d been on sale. It’s TTS, I’m wearing a small. If you want a looser fit, I’d recommend sizing up.

These jeans. You guys, these jeans were like BUTTER. So amazing. You already saw my whole story above. If you’re looking for high-end, high quality denim, add these to your cart! They hit at a perfect length! The high waist is perfect! They run TTS, I’m wearing a 27.

Lo-Fi Shrunken Tee in Painted Blooms | 9” Mid-Rise Skinny Crop Jeans in Asbury Wash

This sweater was calling my name from afar as soon as I saw it on the table. And then I saw it hanging on a different rack, then on a mannequin and I finally grabbed it and tried it on. I’m not mad that I did. It’s pretty great. I didn’t buy it because I’m not ready to commit to fall style yet. But it paired perfectly with this pair of white denim shorts. It’s TTS I’m wearing a small.

These white shorts were perfection! Like I’m talking about the perfect pair of white denim shorts. The rave reviews are true about Madewell denim, I’m pretty sure I already said that though. They’re definitely a higher price than I’d like to pay for shorts, so they stayed at the store. But if I had the money, I would have gotten them. They had a nice high rise, a great length, and were just perfect! They’re TTS, I’m wearing a 27.

These are the same jeans I talked about earlier, but I couldn’t stop staring at this top. It’s one of my favorite things I tried on! The colors were so pretty. The knot on the hip area was just perfect. It was super lightweight and definitely had more of a cropped fit, so it’s for sure something to pair with high waisted bottoms. It’s TTS, I’m wearing a small.

I LOVED this dress! So much that it came home with me as well. It was on major clearance, and just fit perfectly. It will be a great dress to throw on for running errands and being out and about. It’s TTS, I’m wearing a small.

This denim jacket. It was so buttery soft! I actually didn’t like the way it fit because I needed an XS. It has an oversized fit, so you definitely want to go down at least one size. I tied it around my waist just so you could get a glimpse of the color, and I’ll add a photo from the website so you can see it on! Definitely an investment piece, but such a nice denim jacket.

I did sneak a peek at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale items while I was walking through, and it looked like they had a VERY similar jacket in the sale!

This shirt is clearly one of my favorite styles of shirts. I keep trying them on and/or buying them. I just love the look of the button front with the tie. The oversized fit gives that relaxed comfortable appearance but they never look sloppy. The sleeves on this one hit me in an awkward place, so it wasn’t my favorite. I really did love the colors! I’m wearing a small and probably would have preferred the fit of an XS. I paired it with the Tulip Hem shorts I purchased, but it easily could pair with white denim or regular denim.

If you made it all the way through, thanks for hanging out! I’m so glad to have you here on the blog. As I said earlier, Madewell is definitely a more expensive brand. But I promise you, the quality is there. If it’s in your budget, investing in a great quality piece of denim isn’t a terrible idea!

If you’re looking to invest in a high end item, look for something that is going to last you years! Don’t spend a ton of money on something super trendy! A great pair of jeans, a denim jacket, a nice bag, or a great pair of shoes. That’s where you should be spending your hard earned money on expensive pieces!

Kohl’s Try-On – July 2019

The boys and I had breakfast and decided to stop into Kohl’s and see what we could find. There were more things I wanted to try, but S decided he would be funny and run around the women’s clothing department hiding from me. So we left in a hurry. I did find a ton of cute stuff though! Try-ons with tag-a-long kiddos are super fun. You’re definitely missing out if you haven’t done it. Haha.

First we have this adorable Lauren Conrad dress. I absolutely loved the pattern and the style. It’s such a cute girly fit and perfect for a summer event. I put it on and S said, “You look so beautiful!” Such a little sweet talker. I really liked the pattern on the dress and everything about it. I’m wearing a small and I could have easily worn the extra small, so if you’re unsure, I’d size down. When it comes to Lauren Conrad I’m in between sizes in everything. This dress also comes in several other patterns as well.

Lauren Conrad Women’s Pleated Neck Dress – Hibiscus White

This really isn’t a great look for me. I loved the bright green color of this tank, and I think it would pair really well with white pants or jeans. Just definitely NOT these shorts. It’s a two layer shirt, so you don’t have to worry about your bra showing at all. It’s a great length too, which is why it doesn’t look good with these shorts. I’m wearing a small, it’s TTS.

This top by Lauren Conrad is so pretty! It’s hard to see but it had some sparkle throughout it. I loved the light colors and stripes. It looks good and is super comfortable. Very lightweight. You can kind of see my bra through it, so definitely go with a nude bra, or wear a cami under it. I’m wearing an XS and could easily have gone with a Small. So if you’re unsure, get your normal size. It won’t look bad if it’s slightly loose on you.

The shorts are a great basic pair from the Lauren Conrad line as well! They’re super stretchy and comfortable but I definitely recommend sizing up! I have on a 6 and could easily have gone with an 8.

Lauren Conrad Women’s Shirred Peasant Top | Lauren Conrad Feel Good Stretch Denim Midrise Shorts

This top is by far my favorite shirt I tried on. I absolutely LOVED the pattern on it. It’s a super comfy top, very lightweight and soft. It paired really well with these shorts, but would also look good with jeans! I’m wearing a small, so I’d say it’s TTS. (I spy little S in the background)

Lauren Conrad Petite Pintuck Peasant Top – Palm Trees Whit e

I really liked this tank top! It’s super soft and comfortable and I’m pretty sure under $10. The color is so fun and the floral pattern is so pretty! I should have left on the shorts for this picture because it definitely does not go with these jeans. I’m wearing a small, so definitely TTS.

This tank is such a great simple basic. According to the website and the tags on the shirts, this and the yellow floral shirt are the same. Although this is a small and fit completely different than the other. I liked it but I would say size up and wear a bralette for sure. It’s definitely more on the sheer side, so if that’s not something you’re comfortable with a cami under would work also.

I really liked these jeans! They were a great fit. Definitely a mid rise, they hit just a little below my belly button. I’m just loving this dark stripe down the sides, similar to my Old Navy shorts, seen here. These are definitely TTS I’m wearing a 6/7 which is my true size in juniors bottoms.

Mudd Weekend Tank – New White | Juniors Denizen Boyfriend Jeans – Turn It Up

This jumpsuit seriously caught my eye as soon as we walked into the store. It had such fun colors and I loved the vertical stripes! The straps are not adjustable, FYI. I’m wearing a small, it fits TTS, and it hit me right at the ankle, so that’s also something to keep in mind. This would look adorable with wedges for a summer event! You could even throw on a jean jacket! I’d definitely choose a different bra with this, you can kind of see mine peeking out in the corner.

I’m wearing that same white tank from above with these amazing camo overalls! They were the first thing I saw when I walked in the store, and literally the only camo pair on the rack. They were SO comfortable and definitely adorable! They were a very soft French terry material. I’ve been wanting a pair of camo overalls and this just might be the pair I add to my closet. They would also look so cute with a t-shirt as well. I’m wearing a medium, and they are juniors sizing, so I’d say they’re TTS.

H&M Try-on

My kids spent some time with my mom so I could make a trip to H&M and find some goodies for you! My mom was happy, the boys were happy, I was happy, and hopefully, this makes you happy! Win win win!

I haven’t been to H&M in a while, and popped in super quickly last week. I ended up grabbing a couple of things for the boys and a clearance dress and pair of shorts for myself. I knew I needed to get back there and do a try on, because they have some great stuff right now!

I seriously had to cut myself off and only buy a few things. I probably could have done a second round in the fitting room if I’d had more time!

First up is this simple, but pretty t-shirt. It has fluttery sleeves and the cutest pattern. You can see below that I paired it with these joggers and also my white shorts. It worked so well with both and would also look great with black shorts or denim. It also came in several patterns if this one isn’t for you. Such a versatile piece and it was only $9.99! It was TTS, I got my normal size small.

Flounce-Sleeved Top

These joggers were similar to the pair I recently tried from Amazon and sent back. This pair was so much more comfortable and had a much better fit. They were $17.99 which was a great price for the quality! I would say they run slightly large. I’m pretty consistently a size 6, and I sized down to a 4 in these. They fit perfectly. They also came in four other colors.

Pull-On Pants

This top is probably one of my favorite items I tried on. It is gorgeous!! I paired it with my own white shorts, but this would work well with white or classic denim, or even a pair of dress pants! Another super versatile piece! It also came in other patterns as well. This was on the pricier end at $24.99 but the quality was there. I would say it’s TTS, I got a size 2 and it worked perfectly!

V-neck Blouse

Alright, no judgement here. I loved this romper but it did not look good with the bralette I was wearing. Other than that the romper was great! It was so soft and comfortable! This would probably pair best with a strapless bra or a different style of bralette. Um, the best part? It has pockets! It’s TTS, I’m wearing a small.

Viscose Jumpsuit

I wanted to pretend I’m not in my thirties and wear something super trendy for this outfit. I thought the shorts were super cute. But they ran SUPER small. I had a size 6 and they barely fit. So definitely size up on these! The top I thought was so adorable! Its definitely a cropped fit, so if you aren’t comfortable with that, I recommend either tucking it in to high waist shorts or skipping it. It was only $12.99! The shorts were $17.99. Definitely size up!

Ribbed Tank Top | Twill Shorts High Waist

This dress was so fun and different for me. I really liked it! It was the most expensive item I took to the fitting room, at $49.99, but I would say it was absolutely worth the price. The zipper completely unzips, making putting it on and taking it off super simple. The material is a thick twill type material. I would say it runs a bit on the smaller side, I grabbed a 4 and could easily have sized up to a 6. The belt is removable, not that I’d wear it without, but for washing purposes, it does come off. Looking online, the pink color is sold out (my store had plenty, so I’d check in the store near you) but they do have a white version that I didn’t see in the store, and I like that one a lot too!

Twill Biker Dress

This dress is the same as the super clearance find I grabbed this week, but it’s full price. Which is only $12.99 and absolutely worth it. Its a perfect length, super comfy, and pairs perfectly with a cute little bralette! You could throw this on over your swimsuit, or dress it up and wear it to work with a cardigan or jean jacket. Its honestly the perfect little summer dress! It came in several colors as well! It’s TTS. I’m wearing my normal size small!

Modal-Blend Jersey Dress

This black tank was perfect! Perfect, Perfect, Perfect! I had to talk myself out of buying yet another black tank, because the 15 I’ve already got are enough. BUT, if you need a black tank… This is for you girl! It was the perfect length to either front tuck, or untuck and wear as is. It would also be adorable knotted in the front. You could wear it with literally any bottoms and it would be great. It was TTS I have my normal size small! And you guys, THESE SHORTS. They are AMAZING and only $9.99… They came home with me. I don’t own any yellow shorts. They fit so well, and for under $10?! Hello, that’s a no-brainer for me. They are TTS, I got my normal size 6.

While we are here, let’s talk about camera angle shall we? Ugh. Ignore that mirror image of me from behind. It might be the most unflattering photo I’ll ever post… Such is life. I’m a real person. I have real bad angles. We all do. And its OKAY!

V-Neck Jersey Top |Denim Shorts High Waist

This ribbed tank was so comfortable! It paired really well with these yellow shorts, but would also look amazing with a pair of jeans or even black shorts. Just like a majority of the things I tried on, it’s super versatile! It was $14.99, which is a tad more than the other tanks I tried on, but I’d say it was definitely worth it. It was also TTS, I’m wearing a small.

Ribbed Tank Top

I brought this tank top home as well as the shorts. It paired so well with the shorts and was unlike any other tank I have! It was lower cut in the back as well, so you could see the criss-cross of the bralette I was wearing. You could pair this with a bralette or a low back bra if you’re more comfortable with that. It was $12.99 and absolutely worth it. Also TTS, I’m wearing a small.

Jersey Tank Top

This rust colored tank was so pretty! I absolutely loved the lace details on the shoulders! It came in a couple of other colors, but I was just drawn to this one! It paired perfectly with my white shorts, but would look amazing with any bottom, really. At only $9.99, it was hard to not take it home with me!

I told you, so much good stuff! It was so hard to not take almost everything home that I tried on. I have to show some self restraint though!

JCPenney Try On

I found so many great things at JCPenney this week! I honestly had a hard time picking the things I could take with me and what I had to (sadly) leave behind.

First up, this basic pair of black sandals. They were SO COMFORTABLE! I suggest sizing down if between sizes. You can see they are a bit loose on me. I also have extremely narrow feet though.

These sandals are a great spin on the Birkenstock dupes you see everywhere. I’ve got a pair of dupes and love them. I just can’t bring myself to splurge that much on sandals. – No Tory Burch Millers for this girl either. They are pretty true to size, and the adjustable straps made them perfect! They also come in rose gold and black.

This tank! I know, its just a basic tank. But its so good! I ended up grabbing it in several colors. It was under $7 and will literally go with anything! I would say if anything it runs slightly large, I was able to get an XS. The shorts… I am in love! I tried on my normal size 6 and they were super comfortable. A true midrise, and a great length for those of us who prefer to not go out in public in our underwear. 😉

I absolutely adore this tank top. However it is see through, so you’d want to wear a strapless bra or maybe a nude tank under it. But how gorgeous is it??

Try-On Tuesday: Target

I found SO MANY amazing things at target this week, you guys! And everything was under $30! I swear I normally find something I love at Target and feel like it’s too expensive but I feel like everything I tried on today was so worth it’s price!

This sweater tank was so comfy, I normally wear a small, all they had in store was an XS and a large, so I tried on the XS. It fit, but I would have preferred my true small. The color was gorgeous. It was a really nice rose/coral color. The lighting in Target dressing rooms is the worst! For some reason I’m unable to find this tank online, but check your local target!

The jeans were so comfortable and also TTS. If there had been a short option I would have gone with it. The hem was raw so honestly, I could cut them a bit shorter if I wanted to. I really liked the light distressing that they had in the knees and the dark wash!

This top was on clearance and came home with me. It was only $8!!! (It’s full price online, so check your local store!) The sleeves had me at hello! I couldn’t resist them! It was also a super thin material and would look great with white shorts! The buttons go all the way up to the neck for a more dressed up look!

This tank was my favorite of all the tanks I tried on. It was like a very thin sweater material and adorable with these jeans! The best part? It was under $15! I couldn’t link the exact tank, but I found a similar one here which I honestly might like even better.

You guys! This dress! O. M. G. It’s for sure my favorite thing I tried on! It’s SO good! I’ve been seeing dresses with the buttons down the front and dying over them! I am SO glad I tried this one on because it is amazing!!

This tank is a great comfy option.

I liked it in person a lot better than in this picture. The stripes are flattering and the buttons are so trendy right now. It would look awesome with white jeans or shorts!
