JCPenney Try-On • October 2019

I swear JCPenney goes through phases where they have a ton of good stuff and then they won’t have anything for a while. Let me just tell you, they’re on fire right now.

I stopped in super quickly last week and it was hard to not leave with every single item in the dressing room.

Let’s take a look at the goodies I found, shall we?

First we have a super simple and casual outfit. This is probably my favorite colorblock cardigan I’ve tried on this year. Its super soft and stretchy, just a different material than I’ve seen before, and of course the colors are perfect! It definitely runs large. I’m wearing an XS and it fits perfectly!

These simple tees are perfect and super affordable. I sized up to a medium so that I’d have enough length to wear them with leggings if I wanted to. I grabbed the white and the black with white stripes (not shown in this try-on) and would have gotten a few more colors, but Jen from The Sister Studio talked about them and everyone sold them out. So I got what I could, haha. I’d actually seen her talk about them on Instagram, but didn’t even realize it was the same one I was trying on until I put the item number in and it was the same. They’re TTS, I could have easily worn the small and had no issues, but because I wanted a little bit more length, I went with the medium. So it’s totally a personal preference.

This pair of Levi’s. OMG. I would have purchased them for sure If I had one more square inch of closet space and didn’t already own a ridiculous amount of denim. They were super stretchy, perfect rise, the rips hit me perfectly at the knee (although I think they’re designed to hit above the knee, I’m just short. Hence the cuffs at the bottom). I love them. If you’re between sizes, you can size down. I’m wearing a 4 in these and I’m normally a 4/6 depending on brand and fit. There are several color/style options online as well! Unfortunately, Levi’s are usually excluded from any coupons at JCPenney’s, but they’re under $40 right now without the coupon and that’s a great price for a great pair of denim.

Cardigan | Tee | Denim

I swapped out the colorblock cardigan for a different colorblock-ish cardigan. This was actually the first item I saw that sparked the try-on even happening. I’m such a neutrals girl, that this just called me over. I love the cut of it, the stripes and darker bottom, everything about it. Honestly this would look great with black dress pants as well! This is definitely a great piece for the office! I’m wearing a small, it fits TTS.

Cardigan | Tee | Denim

And here we have yet another cardigan with the same tee and denim. I really liked how different this cardigan was. It comes in other colors as well, but the camo was what caught my eye. If I had to choose of all the cardigans I tried on, this would probably be my least favorite, but I still really like it. Its from the juniors department and I typically have to size up in juniors sizes, so I looked for a medium but they didn’t have one. The small fits me really well and is actually slightly oversized, so I’d say go with your true size.

Cardigan | Tee | Denim

Black on Black on Black. Can you ever wear too much black? I don’t think so. I had been dying to try this tunic since seeing it on Jen Reed, and as always she did not disappoint. I’m actually wearing it in two different colors and sizes here. The black was a medium and the striped one is a small. Both fit me just fine and I didn’t really notice much of a difference, nor did I have a preference to the size that fit better. So, I would say that the sizes are fairly flexible for this one. Obviously the larger of the two sizes is slightly longer, so if you’re looking to wear with leggings, I’d say go with the larger one. The small was also a bit more snug on my hips, but it wasn’t so bad that it bothered me.

This pair of black denim is another great pair of Levi’s but they’re on the snug side and I recommend sizing up if you’re in between sizes. Like I said earlier, I’m normally a 4/6 depending on fit and brand, and I grabbed these in the 6 and they were a bit snug. I was also a little bit bloated that day, so I wouldn’t say you need to go up if you’re consistently the same size, but they are definitely a more snug fitting style than the first pair I tried on. Still a perfect pair of black denim! They’re super dark so if you have a pretty relaxed dress code for work, you should be able to wear these! As per usual, they were long on me (short leg problems) but I couldn’t cuff them because of the huge security tag on the ankle.

Tunic | Denim

Here is the striped version of the tunic in a size small. Its definitely a smidge more fitted in my hips, but not in a bad way. I love the stripes too!

Tunic | Denim

If you follow my Instagram, you already saw this tunic and OMG its probably my favorite thing. the fit is great. It actually runs big, because I’m wearing an XS here and it was perfect. The arms have an elastic band in them to keep the sleeves where you want them. It’s hard to tell in the picture here, but if you look closely, the shoulder is slightly ruched, which just adds a little something. It’s a perfect V-neck that isn’t too low for work! You can easily dress this to go out on the weekends too. You know I’m all about the versatile pieces!

Tunic | Denim

I just loved the taupe color of this sweater. It’s meant to have a looser fit through the chest and arms, and if I didn’t carry all of my weight in my hips, I probably could have sized down to an XS for a slightly more fitted top portion, however, being that its meant to be snug on the hip area, an XS would not work for me. The length is perfect tunic length, and it would work amazingly well with leggings. There are zippers on the hips that are functional, so you can unzip them if you like. That would be what I’d do if I were going with the XS. Super cute and super soft.

I absolutely love the sweater poncho trend that is happening right now. I also really love the speckled sweaters as well! This one is adorable but it didn’t come home with me for two reasons. First, I just purchased one that is similar from Loft on sale. (I paid more for that one than this one.. but.. when there’s a sale at Loft, I’m taking full advantage.) Second, this was a little bit itchy, and is made of 100% acrylic. Now, I will say, I’m SUPER sensitive to itchiness. Like, SUPER, SUPER sensitive. So it’s probably a person to person basis which things your skin can handle and which it can’t. I will say though, that this would look SO cute with a long sleeve black shirt under it. An extra layer for warmth and it would help with the itch. Win-Win. If you’re not sensitive to itchy materials, give this one a shot, because it is beautiful.

Sweater | Denim

Where are my long-armed friends at? Kidding. But seriously if you need a longer arm sweater this is for you. I actually have on the XS in this picture and really loved it but ended up taking home the small because the one I tried on had a stain and there wasn’t another in the store. It’s SO soft and so comfortable! I can’t wait to wear it! It comes in at least one other color for sure! Definitely recommend sizing down in this one!

I’d love to hear your favorite items from the try-on! What are some other things you’ve seen at JCPenney or have purchased there lately that I didn’t see? Let’s chat!

JCPenney Try-On | July 2019

I feel like JCPenney is so underrated sometimes. I’ve been striking gold the last few times I’ve shopped there and I feel like I need to shout it from the rooftops. I have found that JCPenney is a great place to find some quality, affordable closet staples. They also have some really great affordable trendy pieces as well. Another perk, you can almost always find a coupon of some sort to save you some extra money. For example, right now if you spend $100, you can save an additional 30% or 25% off of a purchase under $100 with the code ACTNOW26. Of course as with all coupons, some items are excluded.

Another thing I love about JCPenney is that they give you the option to pick your items up in store, or ship them to the store for a reduced or free shipping cost. Who actually wants to pay for shipping?

I was able to put together a few different outfits with a few pieces. I created a few casual looks and a few work appropriate looks as well. Everything I tried on was great and super affordable.

I’ll be completely honest with you, JCPenney doesn’t have the best website or app. They tend to give me issues, but I just have to work through them and find the good stuff. Or, you can let me do the work for you! That’s why I do these posts!

First up, a super simple outfit that could honestly be recreated with any white tee and pair of camo pants. These tees are so comfy and so affordable. I’ve actually got quite a few at home in several different colors. I’m wearing a small here, they are TTS. I have it tucked into the front and you can see that there is definitely some extra material. The shirt is a great length!

These pants are what caught my attention first and actually prompted this try-on. I’ve been looking for a great pair of camo pants and these could be a top contender. They’re super stretchy and comfortable! The rise is high enough that they won’t be riding down, but its definitely not a true “high-rise” pant that comes up to your belly button. I’m wearing a 5 and they’re slightly loose on me, so I’d say if you are between sizes, go with the smaller size. If you’re not, I’d go with your true size. I’m thinking that after washing and drying, they’ll shrink down just a bit.

Tee ($9.49) | Camo Pants ($49)

I just swapped out the tee for a tank that I also have and love. I’m wearing a small in this picture and it fits me fine, but I prefer the XS in this top. They definitely do run larger, so I’d recommend sizing down if you want it to be a little bit more fitted. Go with your true size if you prefer a looser fit.

Tank ($6.99) | Camo Pants ($49)

I told you guys before that I’ll be forever searching for the perfect black denim. This is a fantastic pair (who am I kidding, they’re Levi’s so I knew they would be) to wear to work. They have no distressing and fit like a glove. They’re so comfortable! I’m wearing a size 28 here but could have sized down for sure to the 27, so I’d say they run TTS.

Tank ($6.99)| Black Denim ($39.99)

I spotted this cardigan and couldn’t resist the color. Its great for the fall transition, and also comes in a couple of other colors. It has a hood and I just love the pattern of the knit. It fits TTS, I’m wearing the small.

Cardigan ($24.99) | Tank ($6.99) | Black Denim ($39.99)

This next cardigan is a super win! I never in a million years would have chosen it based on the model online. I’m so glad I found it in store. The buttons are functional and you can absolutely button them, but I prefer the look of them being unbuttoned. This cardigan is so soft! I never ever want to take it off. The sleeves are cuffed and this shade is pure perfection for fall! It will look awesome with denim and booties! Its TTS I’m wearing a small.

Cardigan ($22.99)| Tank ($6.99) | Black Denim ($39.99)

I thought that this tank was such a pretty top for work or for date night. You can easily throw a cardigan or blazer over this and a dressy heel. It was super comfortable and looked great on! I think it would look awesome with a black pencil skirt, a thin belt, and a pair of black heels. It’s TTS I’m wearing a small.

Tank ($19.99) | Black Denim ($39.99)

This tee is perfection. Of course half of the reason I’m loving it is the cheetah print. But the fit of the top is great too! It has a rounded neck and a great length. The sleeves are folded up too, but its not a thick fold that would look terrible under a cardigan. This is a great piece because it can be dressed up or down. It’s also super affordable!

Tee ($19.99) | Black Denim ($39.99)

This is such a fun, yet simple work appropriate top. I loved the sleeve detail and did my best to capture it for you. Black and white stripes are always a safe bet, but I’ve been going with thinner stripes lately and I’m loving the bolder pattern here. This would look awesome with denim as well as black dress pants. A great versatile piece for every closet!

Striped Top ($14.99) | Black Denim ($39.99)

Here is a better look at the front.

This yellow denim really caught my eye. It’s a great color for the fall and they are currently part of a Buy One Get One Free special (the camo pants above are included!). You can also use the coupon I mentioned above to get a discount on top of that! They come in several different denim styles and shades, but yellow was the only color option they had. Its just perfect, if you ask me. I grabbed a size 7 thinking that they would run small because they’re a juniors size, but that was a little large on me. I could easily have worn the 5, so I’d say go with your true size.

This top is technically more of a sleeveless top than a tank, but I thought it was a perfect simple, yet dressier black top. It would look awesome now with white or denim shorts, dressier shorts, or jeans in the fall. You can throw on a cardigan or denim jacket for chillier days and you’re good to go. I’d say you can go with your regular size, but if between sizes you can size down. I’m wearing an XS.

Tank ($17.99) | Yellow Denim ($59)

Last up, we have this gorgeous sweater. I loved the knit detail on it and the slight bell sleeve. It was super soft and comfortable! You can almost see my nude bra through it, so it might be something you’d want to pair with a cami underneath if you’re not comfortable with the slightly more open knit. If I were wearing it to school, I’d probably wear it with a black cami tucked into my pants. It’s TTS I’m wearing a small. I don’t see this staying in stock very long. Its so cute!
