Wal-Mart Try-on

A look at some great finds from Wal-mart!

I’m going to tell you right now, that if 5 years ago you had told me I’d be wanting to buy my clothes at Wal-Mart, I would have laughed right in your face. I never in a million years thought that they would have such great and affordable stuff! I’ve seen other bloggers talking about them, and I’ve actually purchased a few items here and there, so I knew before I went today that I would find some quality items!

I really like their Time and Tru line, which is a majority of what I tried on today. There is another line, I believe by Sophia Vergara, but the Wal-Mart that I went to didn’t have anything that I could find. – “That I could find” being the key words, because I had two tired toddlers with me and this try-on happened in record timing. It included lots of screaming and crying, kicking and hitting, and me begging and pleading for them to calm down for just 5 more minutes so I could try things on. It doesn’t help that Wal-Mart has a very strict, “only six items allowed in the dressing room at a time” policy, and the woman was not budging. I’m not mad, I get it. It just wasn’t fun. It would have been much less stressful sans children. But, I still got to try on some really great stuff. All together, everything I’m going to show you totals to around $150. That might seem like a lot, but you’re getting quite a few great quality items for that price. I put together 8 complete outfits, which I think is pretty good for that price.

Let’s not judge my actual appearance in any of these photos. Or the mess in the fitting room. My kids were going bonkers and I was having the worst allergy day today.

First up, this super comfy t-shirt dress! I’m telling you I could live in it. It is so soft. It came in several colors and the selection is even better online. It has pockets! Winner in my book! I always need pockets! It would also look great with a jean jacket and boots for the fall, especially in this color! I’m wearing a small, but easily could have gone with the extra small if there had been one. So definitely size down in this one.

Time and Tru Women’s Hacci T-Shirt Dress – $12.44

Next, we have another super comfy dress. With, you guessed it! Pockets! This was a nice thick but comfortable material! I liked the high neck as well. It would also look really cute with a jean jacket or even a jean vest! It came in several colors as well. I probably could have sized down to an extra small in this one as well, but I would have been fine with the small I was wearing.

Okay, here we have this super cute shirt and denim shorts. First up, the shirt. It was a nice thin material, so would be great for summer. It would be great with any shorts or even jeans! I’m wearing a medium here, because that is all they had. I definitely would have preferred a small, so I’d say its TTS.

The shorts are actually a really light wash denim, not white, like they appear in the photo. These jeans were super high rise, and super comfortable! They had a great length, so I feel like if you’re chasing little ones around, you’ll be fine with them. I had a size 4 and they fit great. I probably would have been okay with a 6 also, for a looser fit. I’d say they are TTS.

Time and Tru Women’s Short Sleeve Linen Button Down Tie Blouse – $15.89
Time and Tru Women’s 4.5 Denim Shorts – $13.29

Same shorts, similar shirt. What can I say? I’m a creature of habit! I really liked this shirt. It was a nice thick but breathable material and it just laid really nicely when I put it on. Of course I loved the color, and the knot on the front was just a really nice touch. I have on a small. It’s definitely TTS.

Time and Tru Women’s Sandwash Tank Top – $10.88

These shorts, I’m telling you. I couldn’t bring myself to take them off. If it were acceptable, I would have worn them home. But, you know.. there’s rules and stuff. I really liked this top as well. It was actually like a dollar cheaper in the store than the price I found online. But I’d pay a dollar more for it. It was a really nice, soft, boatneck tee. The color was such a bright fun color for summer. It actually comes in several other colors online as well. I’m wearing a small, its TTS.

Time and Tru Shortsleeve Boatneck Top – $9.94

This is the last time you’ll see these shorts, but don’t you love the versatility. I’ve shown you four outfits, maybe they’re similar to one another but who’s being picky. I really, really loved this top. It was so lightweight and you can’t tell from the picture but it was ribbed. I’m starting to get on board with ribbed tops more. I never really liked them until recently. It just adds a nice touch. It looked so cute with a front tuck and would also look great with jeans or a pair of white denim. It was a longer top, so you could probably get away with leggings too. Its TTS, I’m wearing a small. Honestly, an extra small would have been fine too, but I liked the way the small fit.

Time and Tru Wonen’s Dolman Rib T-Shirt – $10.89

I love black because it hides everything. But I hate trying to photograph black.. because it hides everything. I really had to lighten this picture just so I could show you the details on this romper. Its nothing fancy, but I wanted to show you that it has an elastic waist and a tie. It is such a simple basic piece, but it was so comfortable!!! I loved the length of it! Its not too long where it looks frumpy, but my booty is covered! It would look great with a bralette under it because the arm holes are a little bit large. Honestly, you could dress it up or down and make it as casual or fancy as you like. It’s TTS, I’m wearing a small. I honestly thought the small looked massive on the hanger, but once I got it on, it looked fine.

Time and Tru – Hacci Romper – $12.44

Aren’t you glad I finally put on a different pair of shorts. And the original shorts are just chilling in the background. Haha! I told you liked them! This tank was super cute on the hanger, but I didn’t really like the way it hit me. Maybe it was the bra I was wearing with it, I’m not sure. It looks adorable on the model online… It could also have been because this was the last thing I tried on and I was trying not to listen to my children screaming in the background. I’m sorry shirt, I shouldn’t take that out on you. The ties on the shoulder are such a fun detail! I really liked it, just didn’t love it. It was made of a similar material to the green shirt above, so I’m thinking I would have liked it in another color. Its definitely TTS, I’m wearing a small.

These shorts were nice, but not as good as the other pair. They are a different brand and the quality was lacking a bit. I mean, for the price, they’re really not bad. But, I’ve got the other pair to compare them to, and they knocked it out of the park. This pair was just a hair shorter, and definitely had a lower rise. They were still definitely a midrise, but I’m all about that high rise denim life. (Thanks two babies in two years – I’m really glad that high rise pants made a comeback just in time for this postpartum belly!) I’d say they were TTS, I had on a 6.

Time and Tru Women’s Sandwash Tank $10.88
Signature by Levi Strauss & Co Women’s High Rise Shorts – $16.82

You guys! These shoes! I died when I saw them. There were only two pairs in the store in a size 6 and I have really big toes, so I’m pretty sure my toe alone is a size 6, otherwise I’d have tried them on for you. They are stunning. And under $20! What?!

Women’s Big Buddha Woven Peep Toe – $16.41

I’m going to tell you guys a secret. These came home with me. I did truly need another pair of all black sandals and they were under $8! I loved the different textures of the two bands! They’re really comfortable too! Super soft to walk in. Also, I’m really sorry. I hate feet. I hate pictures of feet. But its a shoe, and sometimes you need to see a shoe on a foot to see if you’ll really like it. Forgive me? Anyway, they’re true to size. I got a 9 and they fit great!

Please don’t hate me. I can’t find these on the website! I’ll post a similar style for you!
This pair
From target is black and leopard, which you can’t go wrong with and I’ve been looking at them for some time. They are more expensive though, at $20.
This pair from Amazon is cute as well, has a bit more of a platform and is also more expensive.
This pair, is the pair I’m wearing in all of the pictures above. I love these sandals, and get so many compliments on them!

This pair of shoes was another pair that I loved and ALMOST took home with me but the voice of reason chimed in and reminded me that I have a speeding ticket to pay. (We can talk about that later. I’m a little salty about it.) These would be the perfect summer accessory to a black tee shirt dress like the one in my recent Instagram post! Here! Also, lets pretend that it doesn’t look like I missed the back of my foot when I applied my tanner. I promise this is just bad lighting, or I need new glasses.

Women’s Big Buddha H Band Jewel – $8.80

I told you I found some really great stuff! What are your favorites? What have you found at Wal-mart that I didn’t find?! Let’s chat!

BeautyBlender Electric Blend and Cleanse Set

I wear these on a daily basis with my boys’ birthstones! I absolutely love them. They are small and simple and go with everything!

Birthstone Wrap Ring

I know this item is definitely a splurge, but I am a die-hard coach girl. I have so many coach bags and wallets, and I’m not joking when I say that they are still just as nice as the day they came home with me. This adorable little wristlet is 50% off at $125. I promise you. Coach products LAST.

Clutch with Snakeskin Detail

I’m seriously considering getting this right now for W! We always need somewhere for him to sit when we are out places, and he’s way too big for a bumbo seat. This is a great next step option. It’s also 20% off with code Save4summer!

Pop N Sit Recline Lounger

I’ve said it a million times. Im a sucker for a cute back on a shirt. I am LOVING the leopard detail on the back of this! Would be so cute with a bralette!! It’s only $22.99.

I hope you’re all having a fabulous Tuesday!

Dry Shampoo

A peek at my current dry shampoo collection and my thoughts on each one!

This post may contain affiliate links.

If you’ve been here a while, you know that I have dry skin. My scalp is the same way… So I can go a solid week without washing my hair. That doesn’t mean a week with no dry shampoo, though. I usually need dry shampoo by the third day after washing. I use it for more than just oil absorption though. I add it to my roots for volume as well. Not to mention, I’m a mom of two wild little boys, so the amount of time I have to wash and dry my hair… is limited.

When I’m looking for a dry shampoo, I’m looking at several aspects. First, does it actually work? If it does the job I’m looking for then I look for a few other things. Does it leave a white cast? Does it smell good? Does it make my hair feel gross, or does it actually make it feel cleaner?

As with everything… This is a personal preference. What works for me might not work for you! And that’s okay! These are my opinions and you are entitled to yours.

Here is my current collection of dry shampoos, I might have a problem. Maybe not.

First up, this Klorane dry shampoo with oat milk. Overall, of every single dry shampoo I’ve tried, this is probably my absolute favorite. It has almost no scent, maybe a slightly clean scent, but no heavy perfumes. Its a white-ish powder, but hardly leaves a white cast in my hair. They actually sell a version for darker hair as well. It truly does absorb all of the oils from my scalp. My hair truly feels clean when I’ve used this. It’s a little bit pricey, and it comes in a smaller size can than most, but I believe its worth it.

This Klorane is the same it just isn’t in an aerosol can. Which I like because its better for the environment and just in general. It has the same qualities as the aerosol can. You just squeeze the bottle and it puffs out. I can’t say enough good things about this dry shampoo. Unfortunately this style of bottle does not come in a darker hair version.

This Drybar Detox Whipped Dry Shampoo Foam is definitely an interesting one. I personally love it. It smells amazing (like everything from Drybar), leaves no white cast at all (because its a foam and you rub it right into your roots) and I think it gives my hair tons of volume. However, if you use too much, this can get out of hand and make your hair feel cakey and gross. A little bit goes A LONG WAY. If you have really greasy hair, I would absolutely pass on this one. If you’ve got dry hair, you’ll probably like this.

My best friend has much more oily skin than I do. At first she liked this, but after a few uses, she realized that she didn’t love it as much as she thought. She felt as though it made her hair look greasier than it was to begin with. All a matter of your skin type and preference. If your thinking about this one, I’d probably try a smaller size. If you want it for the amazing scent, I’d go with the traditional Drybar dry shampoo. It works really well too!

This Amika Perk Up dry shampoo is a really good basic dry shampoo! It doesn’t leave a terrible white cast. It has a nice scent that’s not too over powering. One thing I like about Amika is that you can get find a lot of package deals on their website. Not to mention the super fun packaging!

Dove Dry shampoo is a super affordable dry shampoo. It does the job, but I feel like it leaves my hair feeling a little bit chalky. It doesn’t seem to absorb as well into my hair as the others. I have also noticed it definitely leaves a white cast. It smells really good though, and this sample size I have is perfect for on the go. It’s not my favorite out there but it works in a pinch.

This Living Proof PHD Dry shampoo gets a lot of hype. And for good reason! It really is as good as people say it is. I love how it makes my hair feel so clean! However, it does leave a white cast. I don’t even have dark brown hair. I have to rub it in pretty well. To me, that’s not an issue because the dry shampoo works so well for me. It has a really light, clean smell. The only thing I would complain about is the white cast.

Oribe… Oribe is an extremely pricey brand if you ask me. It’s the most expensive product I’m talking about today. Do I like this dry shampoo? I loved it. Do I love the price? Absolutely not. I’ve seen it ranging in the $43-$46 range. I think that that price is absurd. Especially when there are brands out there that are literally a fraction of the price and do the same thing.

Don’t misread what I’m saying. I REALLY liked this dry shampoo! Like so much that I kind of want to buy another… But I cannot swallow the pill of spending that kind of money. I got it in my FabFitFun box, and basically paid for the dry shampoo and the rest of the box was free. If you have the money and are okay with spending it. I highly recommend this product. But if you’re a saver.. or on a budget… I’d say skip it.

It doesn’t leave a white cast at all. It really does make my hair feel clean. I’m actually really sad that I used it all up. But I did use it sparingly, so it lasted me a long time.

This No Drought from Lush is amazing. It smells so good and it seems to replenish itself when I’m not looking. Just kidding. But I’ve had this since October and used it many times, and it doesn’t even look like it. It’s a loose powder, so its a little bit different than your standard dry shampoo, but it works really well. I am a huge fan of Lush products, because they don’t have any bad ingredients and are all natural. On top of that, they smell SO GOOD!

There are a few others that I’ve tried and really like, but don’t currently have in my bathroom.. because, well, I clearly don’t need them.

A staple dry shampoo is Batiste. Its all around a great workhorse of a dry shampoo. It does leave a white cast, but they do have a dark hair version if you have issues with the white powder. You can buy a small, medium, or large of the original. They also make a ton of fragrances, although some of them are a bit too strong for me. So there is a ton of variety when it comes to this affordable brand. Batiste Dry Shampoo – $9

Another great affordable option is EVA NYC. This is a great basic dry shampoo and it does a great job. I honestly don’t remember what it smells like, because I haven’t used it in a while, but that tells me that it wasn’t a strong smell. EVA NYC Freshen Up Dry Shampoo – $12

One last affordable brand is Hask. I think I went through 7 different bottles of this. I honestly didn’t have a preference for one over the other, I really liked all of the different types that I tried. Its a great affordable option! HASK Biotin Thickening Dry Shampoo – $8

Dry Conditioners

While we are talking about dry shampoos, I don’t want to neglect the ends of my hair. I heat style, probably more than I should… depending on the week and what I’ve got going on. I usually use my blow drying brush the day I wash my hair and then two or three days later I usually use my wand to curl it for the remainder of the time until the next wash. I might straighten it if I want it straight for another day. I might also add a few curls to my previously curled hair if I feel like I need it.

I know that heat styling is not great for your hair, so I thought I’d try some dry conditioners. I’ve used both the Drybar and Amika shown below and really like them both. I just mist them lightly on the ends of my hair on the fourth or fifth day after washing. Both of them give my hair a great smell and leave it feeling soft, but not greasy. These products would probably really benefit someone with much drier, courser hair as well.

Some Tips…

Less is more. You can always add more dry shampoo but it’s pretty hard to take it away.

Put it in your hair before bed. I always put dry shampoo in at night. Sleeping helps it to absorb into my hair and if there is an issue with a white cast, it’s mostly rubbed in by morning.

Train your hair. So often people say I can’t use dry shampoo my hair is too greasy. Your scalp produces oil when it needs it. By washing your hair every single day with shampoo you are stripping the oils and telling your scalp to produce more. I used to have super oily skin, and scalp. (Now I’m just a walking Sahara desert. Thanks pregnancies.) It took me some time to use dry shampoo successfully. I had to teach my hair. I started out slow and eventually, when I was an oily gal, I was able to go a solid 3 days without washing.

Rub it in. You don’t just spray dry shampoo into your head and expect it to magically degrease your scalp. You have to spray it onto your roots, let it sit, and rub it in with your fingertips. Doing this also allows you to build a little bit of volume.

Use it for volume. I said earlier that I don’t use it just to absorb oils. I use it to help my super fine hair look a little thicker.

Dry shampoo is all about trial and error. You have to find what works for your hair. I tried to find, and link, trial and sample sizes for you, so if you’re interested in one but don’t want to commit to a full size bottle, try out the mini!

I’d love to hear about your favorite dry shampoos! Are there any I’m really missing out on?

Sephora Play Box Review – June 2019

My thoughts on the June 2019 Sephora Play box!

*This post may contain affiliate links.

I’m a beauty/skincare product junkie, if you haven’t already noticed. I am constantly trying new stuff and that’s why I love subscription boxes where I can get samples. I’m not spending a ton of money on products to try them and find out if I like them or not.

If you’re not familiar with Sephora Play, you pay $10 a month and get five samples of products sold at Sephora, a bag that you can reuse or recycle, and a Play Pass that you can use to get 50 extra points with a full size purchase at Sephora.

I was SUPER excited for this months box. I’ve been receiving it for a while and I’m rarely disappointed but this month was one of my favorites!

There was one product that isn’t pictured below, it was a sample of vitamins. They tasted great, but one day of vitamins is not enough for me to know if it works or not. I don’t really like when you get a one day supply of a vitamin. Seems wasteful to package it up in the cute little foil package and send to people. The only thing they’re trying out is the taste.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

I’ve talked about this and you guys know it’s one of my all time favorite lip products. I put it on my lips every single night before bed. It’s still there in the morning. My lips feel so hydrated when I wake up. I actually didn’t open the sample size because I plan on giving it away! I’ve got a full size and I want someone else to try it out and fall in love! Full size retails for $20. Overall rating: 5/5 (but you already knew that)

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

Biossance Squalane & Tea Tree Detox Mask

I was pretty excited to try this out. My forehead has been breaking out a little bit and I’m not exactly sure why. So a detox mask sounded like a great idea! I will say the tea tree was very strong, but that doesn’t bother me at all. If you’re sensitive to it though, this might not be for you. It was a very lightweight mask. I’ve got pretty sensitive skin and had no issues with it. It didn’t burn or make my skin bright red. So that’s a plus. My skin felt very clean after I used it. I’ve got no complaints. Was it the best mask I’ve ever used? I wouldn’t say that, but it was good. It’s definitely geared towards more oily skin, being that it has tea tree in it. But it didn’t negatively affect my dry skin at all. Some other perks of this mask are the squaline, which is super hydrating. It’s paraben free, cruelty free, vegan, non-toxic, synthetic fragrance free, and PEG free. Until now, I’d not heard of this brand. But I’m definitely intrigued and will be looking more into it for sure. Full size retails for $39. Overall rating: 4/5

Biossance Squalane & Tea Tree Detox Mask

Tarte Foundcealer

Overall, I’m pretty impressed with this foundation. I wore it yesterday for the first time and I spent the entire day outside at the zoo. The humidity level was approximately one million, so I’d say it held up well. It wasn’t a perfect color match for me, because I’ve been self-tanning, so that was a downside. But that has nothing really to do with the formula or quality of the product. I was able to bronze my face and make it blend well with the rest of my body. It blended in nicely, covered what needed covered, and didn’t look like I was wearing a ton of makeup. It wasn’t overly matte or overly dewy. It lasted all day. I will definitely continue using it to get a better opinion. Not only is it a good foundation, but it has some really good skincare benefits as well. It has babassu, sunflower seed, and hyaluronic acid! Full size retails for $39. Which is pretty comparable to other foundations. Overall rating: 4/5

Tarte Foundcealer

Belif – The True Cream – Aqua Bomb

I have actually used and loved this lotion! I’ve actually got 3 other samples in my bathroom, so I’ll likely be passing this one on too, only because I don’t need another and won’t use it before it expires. It’s a great moisturizer! It’s lightweight, so it would be better for less dry skin than mine, but it did the job for my dry skin. It’s paraben, sulfate, and phthalate free, as well! Full size retails for $38. Overall rating: 5/5

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair BarriAir Cream

This is the only item that I’ve not tried from the box. But I am excited to try it! It claims to help strengthen the skin barrier with ceramides and hyaluronic acid, which we know is really great for your skin’s hydration. It’s free of many ingredients that are known to be bad for your skin. It has minimal amounts of fragrance. Its considered a lightweight cream and is good for all skin types! I did test it out to feel it on my hand and it was very lightweight. I can’t wait to give it a try in my daily routine and see what I think about it. Full size retails for $30.
